JAMB Adds Two New Subjects to 2022 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) has added two science subjects into the Jamb subjects combination. 

These two subjects are said to be compulsory. And whether you’re an art, science or commercial student.  You’re bound to take it.

Jamb adds two new subjects which are Physical Health Education (PHE) and ICT or Computer Studies.

The motive of introducing is to widen the student’s opportunities and foresight during and after school life.

Prof Is- haq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar said this during an interview with reporters after receiving an award of excellence from the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN).

“The next issue is the campaign we have just introduced; Physical and Health Education and Computer Studies as UTME subjects.

He said the board would go after students using fake certificates to secure admission.

He emphasised how the board will take action against those using fake certificates to secure admission.

“We are working very hard to tighten the noose and make it impossible for those who engage in such an illicit action to succeed,” the registrar said.

He also informed Nigerians to relax as the board are working effortfully to curtail every form of malpractices that may come up and also reduce the rate of illegal admissions.

He urged Nigerians to continue discouraging malpractices.

Oloyede said the Board has decided to adopt a cashless system in the registration process. Adding that JAMB would also prohibit Computer Based Test (CBT) Centres from selling e-PINs to guard against the extortion of candidates.

Some major things he added are that the 2022 UTME will adopt a cashless system. Although, if registration to reduce or totally exterminate extortion and also prohibit the CBT”s centres from selling e-PINS to curtail extortion as well.

“Once you are a CBT centre you cannot also say you want to sell ePIN.” he said.

Oloyede called for support in the various campaigns embarked upon by the Board to ensure a better admission system.

He said: “We appreciate the gesture and I want to assure you you have not done this in vain. The objective of presenting this Award will be attained.

The purpose is to be able to encourage us to do more of what we have been assigned to us by the Federal Government. I assure you, we will deliver on the mandate.”

Chairman of ECAN, Chuks Ukwuatu, said the Award of Excellence, which comes every five years, was bestowed on Oloyede for his achievements in JAMB.

“The Award was initiated to encourage performance because we know if we get it right in education, we will also get it right in all spheres of the economy,” Ukwuatu added.
